Synchronicity

I once had a friend named Fox. He had beautiful curly hair, tattoos, rode a motorcycle and wore T-shirt’s that said “happy trees” and it wasn’t because he was a Bob Ross fan. We were in our twenties when we met but our friendship was wild and carefree like we were kids. We watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind on repeat and said it was us. We posted the quote “meet me in Montauk” on our AIM profiles and on our MySpace pages. We listened to “Dream a Little Dream of Me” and when I went away to college that became our song. We walked trails at the Avalon and found this rock where we’d get stoned and giggle about random things like getting lost in the woods like Blair Witch Project-only I’d be serious because obviously I was paranoid. I’d follow his lead through the trails and we’d miraculously find our way to where we started.
He passed away a few years after we broke up. We never said goodbye. I don’t remember our last conversation. I only know that he passed away. When he died I went back to the Avalon to look for the rock, but I couldn’t find it. I screamed at the top of my lungs “WHERE ARE YOU?” I didn’t feel his presence, he was lost.
Sometimes when I’m stuck in my head, stressed out or wondering what I should do- I’ll hear that song by the Mamas & the Papas. I used to think it was coincidence, but I don’t anymore. The other night while I was driving home, having deep thoughts about what was happening in my life, my fears, my expectations of myself; am I doing enough self work? Am I living with enough integrity? A fox appeared in front of my car out of the blue. I swerved my car so I didn’t run it over. It was there plain as day.
I believe in synchronicity. I believe that when we believe then we see. I believe in the power of the divine universe to help us move from a life conditioned by fear to a life of graceful awakening. That in this moment I was being reminded of humility. That life doesn’t always have to be so serious. And that there are angels with me at all times. If we stay open, if we allow ourselves the freedom of seeing that everything is connected to our journey-
