Brene Brown on Vulnerability

Here’s the thing about vulnerability. Sometimes it makes me want to run. Sometimes I actually DO run. I walk away, I leave the conversation, I “ghost” people, I stay in fear, embarrassment, shame, take myself too seriously.

It’s all meaningful and it all has purpose as I work through it and differentiate what is ego, what is real and what isnt.

Then it all seems a little more clear. Is this healthy? Is this painful? Is this a beneficial time to lean in more? Then I can explore the depths of my ability to be vulnerable. The ability to STAY. Stay in the room, stay in the conversation, even if it’s SO hard. The pausing. Working through those pangs of frustration, disappointment, maybe even rejection that make us want to run away. The things that prevent us from being in connection to conscious communication- not saying all the hurtful things, being able to respond rather than react.

The work in vulnerability has helped awaken me to all the things that contribute to the very authentic fibers of my own being. Consequentially, I’m able to have much deeper connections in relating this way. Think about what you could learn about yourself and your relationships through practicing vulnerability.
